The Son and His Hope by Pepper Winters + MY REVIEW!

TS&HH - BT banner.jpg
The Son and His Hope by Pepper Winters
Release Date: February 12th
ebook.jpg
The Son and His Hope, a sweeping standalone from New York Times Bestselling author Pepper Winters.
“Things you should know about me from the very beginning:
I was born to true love, witnessed the destruction it causes, and vowed never to let such agony happen to me. I am not a story-teller like my father. I am not a writer like my mother. I am just a son—their son.
I am happy being alone.
And that is all I ever want to be.”
JACOB
The day he was born, Jacob learned his hardest and longest lesson.
It wasn’t a lesson a boy should learn so young, but from his earliest memories he knew where happiness lives, so does tragedy. Where love exists, so does heartbreak. And where hope resides, so does sorrow.
That lesson carved him from the kid to the teen to the man.
And nothing and no one could change his mind.
HOPE
I first met him when he was fourteen at a movie premiere of all places. A movie based on his parent’s life.
He was stoic, strong, suspicious, and secretive.
I was only ten, but I felt something for him. A strange kind of sorrow that made me want to hug and heal him.
I was the daughter of the actor hired to play his father.
We shared similarities.
I recognised parts of him because they were parts of me.
But no matter how many times we met. No matter how many times I tried.
He stayed true to his vow to never fall.

My Review

The Son & His Hope (The Ribbon Duet)The Son & His Hope by Pepper Winters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"She was maddening and frightening and everything I'd always avoided. Yet having her in my arms, I was free."

I am an absolute mess after reading this book! It was such a beautiful yet heartbreaking read. Hope and Jacobs relationship will take you on the most exhausting and down right heartbreaking ride that you will ever willing go on. I don’t know how many times I literally wanted to just hold Hope and tell her that she was such a brave and beautiful person. She is truly an angel sent from heaven from Ren to his son. My heart completely broke for at 83% I cried so dang hard for her. Enough about that though. What truly made this book what it is was the writing! The writing was beyond amazing and beautiful! It was perfection!
This story was so emotional crippling it was truly hard for me to get thru. It will break you and build you back up to literally rip you apart again, but that is what makes this story so beautiful and utterly unforgettable! I will carry this series with me now and forever!

"Love can sometimes be the worst weapon."

"Because love....that was the most dangerous thing a person could do."

“He was the penny on the street you picked up for good luck. The four-leaf clover you tucked into the pages of a book for good fortune. The wish you made to the starry sky, believing there had to be more than this.”

“I’d asked Dad why he put up with abuse—because it was emotional and physical abuse. And he’d said it was our job to be the carers of those who carry the pain. Pain could manifest in many ways, and it wasn’t up to us to point out how hurtful and cruel such pain could be. We had to be brave and show the hurting that they could share their agony or deliver their agony. Either way, there would be no judgment or condemnation. Only love.”

“Because the world wouldn’t be the same without love. Humanity wouldn’t exist. The cycle of life wouldn’t exist. Nothing would exist.”

Verity

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“What you read will taste so bad at times, you’ll want to spit it out, but you’ll swallow these words and they will become part of you, part of your gut, and you will hurt because of them.”

Hands down one of the best books I've read this year!
This book was SO incredibly different than anything Colleen Hoover has ever written and I absolutely LOVED it! I did not know she had it in her, It was riveting, dark and so dang compelling. It's was refreshing and down right disturbing, It was mind blowing!
I NEVER seen that ending coming! This book was absolutely astonishing!
The MUST read of 2018!!

*ARC given for my honest opinion.*
Quotes:

"The world was her manuscript. No surface was safe."

"You can’t look at someone the way he looked at me—with the entirety of your past—if you aren’t also imagining your future.”

"And that’s what love at first sight is. It isn’t really love at first sight until you’ve been with the person long enough for it to become love at first sight."

”But when a person finds someone who makes all the negativity in their lives disappear, it’s hard not to want to feed off that person. I fed off Jeremy in order to keep my soul alive. It was starving and shriveled before I met him, but being in his presence nourished my wilted soul.”

About the Author

Cynthia hates writing her own bio. In her down-time, you can find her watching movies, ranging anywhere from classic to action flicks (she has a weakness for Marvel adaptations), and reading any novel she can get her hands on.

My Review

⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Love. Something so universal and sought after. Didn’t the world know that the same thing stitching you up was the thing that ripped you to shreds to begin with?”

EVOL was unlike any story I've ever read. It was such a Poetic read full of Raw anguish that will be ripping you apart with each passing page. Cynthia Rodriguez is a magician with words. You can tell this story was something so special and real to her, and the way she was able to bring it to life with and make the reader feel as it was actually happening to them was nothing short of amazing. I LOVE her work and will continue to be stalking her until I get her next masterpiece!
"I took the hurt,
And grew something beautiful from it.
I am my own magician now."

“My body should be covered in bruises. There should be bullet holes puncturing my flesh but I’m running my towel over smooth freckled skin. Strange that we don’t wear our emotional trauma on our skin. I wonder what everyone would look like if we did.”

“I give you my worst because I know you’ll love me through it.”

HEATHENS (Heathens Duet #1)HEATHENS by Amanda Richardson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I went into this book completely blind... Didn't read the Blurb and haven't ever read anything by the Author.
Let me just say I loved Amanda Richardson writing. She wrote this story so beautifully and poetically and that alone will have me picking up other books written by her.
The story takes you on a wild ride and is considered a dark romance. But to me it not that bad, it has it's touchy subject but nothing that should have you passing the book up for.
I love the writing in this story and the message it sends!

Evil by Tijan Blog Tour & Review

Title: Evil
Author: Tijan
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: May 13, 2016

You know that group of people in school that everyone fears? Popular. Beautiful. The in-crowd?

That was my family. Kind of.

We were above that group. We held court over everyone else. We were the best looking. We were the mysterious and elusive ones. Most of the girls wanted to (and did) date the guys, but they didn’t want to be one of us. They couldn’t be. They were our prey.

We were the feared.

But like every family, nothing is as it seems. That was my truth.

Kellan was in his own league. He was our leader and he was the one no one messed with. No one dared. He was ruthless, powerful, and no one could match him.

Except for me.

I was about to find out just how different I was from my family.

**Evil is a full-length paranormal romance stand-alone.

As I drove through the backstreets of Poehler and headed out of town, I saw Leah and a few others leaving one of the pizza places, like a normal teenager enjoying time with her friends.

I’d never been a part of that world. None of the Bradens had. And for some reason, it never bothered us. We were meant for different things. Still…a part of me wished things could’ve been different. That I could’ve grown up as a normal girl with a normal family and even a normal boyfriend.

When I slowed and turned onto the gravel road that led to my home, I knew it was useless to wish that.

I wasn’t normal. No one in my family was, but it would’ve been nice to know what normal felt like.

We lived in a three-story brick house. And as I parked to the left of the garage, I cursed when I saw that every single light was off. That didn’t mean everyone was asleep, not in my family. It meant that they were outside, probably down by the river.

It was a little reprieve for me.

I let myself in to the empty house, kept the lights off, toed off my sandals, and moved into the kitchen. The bare tile felt cool underneath my feet. As I opened the fridge, I pulled out a container of orange juice and then screamed.

Kellan stood right behind me, a foreboding expression on his face.

“Oh God.” I laughed, weakly, as I set down the orange juice. “You gave me a heart attack just now.”

Kellan cocked his head to the side, his eyes on mine.

When I shut the door, the fridge’s light was replaced by the moonlight. It fell over his face and gave him a shadowed, mysterious look. Anyone else would’ve shuddered in scared anticipation. I just shuddered because it was cold.

“What?” I asked. Kellan had something to say, I could tell. I didn’t have the patience to play his games.

“Where were you?” he asked, his voice low and gruff, almost raw.

“I had things to do. What are you talking about? I told you that.” I wanted him to leave it alone. I didn’t want to tell him about the painting, not after so many years of secrecy.

“No, you didn’t tell me anything. And I knew you didn’t want me to ask, just like you never want me to ask.” Kellan moved forward and leaned against the fridge. I knew he didn’t intend it, but his stance seemed predatory.

“I saw Leah leaving the pizza place tonight. You sure you want to miss out on that?” I asked nervously. I downed the rest of the orange juice, and when I turned toward the sink, Kellan grabbed my arm and hauled me back.

“What?” I asked. Kellan had never been intentionally rough with me. I’d never seen it, but I knew he had it in him. In fact, something told me that he had a lot in him that I wouldn’t want to know.

His fingers tightened on my arm. “What were you doing tonight?”

I looked at his hand, almost distantly, though I felt the pain intimately. “Don’t ask me that.”

“Why? Are you going to tell me the truth?”

I looked up and met his gaze. His eyes were a piercing blue, so beautiful to look at, but I swallowed and steadied myself. “I would lie. And I don’t want to lie to you.”

Hello~ (waves)

I didn't begin writing until after undergraduate college. There'd been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can't blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I'm hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! And I hope you keep enjoying my future stories.

My Review

I had started reading this as soon it was posted on Wattpad and was completely obsessed. So when I received an ARC of it I was over the moon.
I was hooked from the very first page, I loved the mystery. It was spell binding and thrilling till the very end.
Tijan is an amazing writer and I will read anything she writes!

Excerpt

“Keep the engine running,” I say. “If I’m not out in five minutes, leave.”

Poe nods her head, but doesn’t argue.

When the nine o’clock hour comes, both she and I watch the clock on the dashboard turn to one minute after.

“You’ll need to keep your mask on, Poesy. Make sure none of your hair is showing,” I say. “Keep your head down the entire time.”

“Okay,” she answers in a small voice.

“If you see cops—”

“I know what to do, Lowen. I know you want me to leave you.” She sighs. “But I don’t know if I can.”

Despite our circumstances, I smirk. “Hopefully you won’t have to.”

At nine thirty, Poe and I switch seats, and she gets behind the wheel while I load the pistol. With hands that shake uncontrollably, I place the ski mask over my head but don’t pull it down my face. I help Poesy with hers, tucking in every stray strand of hair so they remain unseen.

She grabs my wrist, and our eyes meet. I see fear combined with love and loyalty in her stare.

I kiss her knuckles and promise with the chance of lying, “We’re going to be okay.”

Unlike when we drove into the garage, the streets are alive and filled with a variety of automobiles, and dirty sidewalks carry several pedestrians. The forty-second drive to the bank feels like forty years. Thick blood courses through my veins, and I feel it flow through arteries and vessels, nourishing muscle and bone. My head echoes with the thump, thump, thump of my hard heartbeat. Every breath is shallower than the one before it.

“Pull down your mask,” I say, but my voice sounds foreign and feels a million miles away.

As Poe drives into California Credit Union’s parking lot, I grip the cold steel in my hand.

The edges of my vision blur; I’m blinded by adrenaline.

My skin crawls like I’m covered in spiders; I’m delirious with edginess.

“Your ski mask,” Poesy shrieks. “Cover your fucking face, Lowen.”

My girl reaches over and pulls it down for me. The car stops to a screeching halt, and reality crashes into me in a brutal rush, stripping me of air and voice.

“If we’re in this, you need to go,” Poesy says in a calm but stern tone, hidden behind her black mask.

There’s peace in her eyes.

There’s strength in the girl who stayed with me when I was locked up.

The one who’s remained by my side, believing and starving all at the same time.

With the gun in my hand and determination in my heart, I leave Poesy in the car and push open the glass double doors into the bank.

As I step foot onto the burgundy carpet, I yell, “Everyone down on the fucking floor!”

My Review

"Chaos is our marriage certificate.
Mayhem is the bond that keeps us together."
I am completely speechless.
This book....
This book is WOW!
I seriously don't know where to begin.
This book is art.
The writing is a thing of genius.
Hands down.
This story is AMAZING!
I have never wanted to take a walk on the wild side until I was introduced to Lowen!
He is EVERYTHING! Sigh.
Low and Poesys love for one another is truly inspiring. Regardless of any situation their love for one another stood strong.
This book is riveting! A fun, fast paced thrilling read that I know will always stay with me.
Every book I have read by Mary Elizabeth You has always been something that has you on the edge of your seat, not only from the angst and emotions but because every story she writes is something fresh and alluring. I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us in her next novels!

Review of Verum by Courtney Cole (NOCTE #2)

VERUM_front

THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE.
My name is Calla Price and I’m drowning.
My new world is a dark, dark ocean and I’m being pulled under by secrets.
Can I trust anyone? I don’t know anymore.
The lies are spirals. They twist and turn, binding me with their thorns and serpentine tongues. And just when I think I have it figured out, everything is pulled out from under me.
I’m entangled in the darkness.
But the truth will set me free.
It’s just ahead of me, so close I can touch it. But even though it shines and glimmers, it has glistening fangs and I know it will shred me.
Are you scared?
I am.

About Courtney Cole

I write books.  I’ve always had a huge imagination, and so writing books just seemed like the logical job for me.  I love LOVE, so Romance is the perfect genre for me.  I love  Happily Ever Afters in my books, but I also love a good rocky journey to get there.  A difficult journey makes the destination worth it.  :)
Random fun facts about me:
  1. I collect dashboard hula-girls.
  2. I like to have my car stereo volume set at an even number.
  3. I can barely remember my natural hair color.
  4. I am terrified of buoys and birds.
  5. I love cemetery angels. Is that weird?
I grew up in rural Kansas, so yes, I am a corn-fed Kansas girl.  My husband calls me his “Sunflower” because that sounds so much better.  (You can see references of that in Dante’s Girl– Dante calls Reece his Sunflower.  Awww!)   I live in Florida now, with my real-life circus.  I have my own Prince Charming, two sons, one daughter, two cats, Nyx and Ninja, and our old grandpa dog, Milo.
